5 days Kilimanjaro Marangu hiking adventure, potential climbers may believe that the Marangu path is an easy way to reach the summit because it is known as the “Coca-Cola” route. To be completely honest, this is not the case! It is not necessarily easier than any other route just because it takes at least 5 days to finish. The trail passes through lush rainforest, heath, and moorland before reaching an alpine desert, the arctic zone, and finally the summit. The same route is taken back down. If you’re interested in climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, this safari is a fantastic opportunity!

Detailed itinerary for 5 days Mount Kilimanjaro Marangu Hiking

Day 1: Transfer to Marangu Gate to start climbing Mandara Hut

The Kilimanjaro Park Gate (1,830 m.), which is close to Marangu, a lovely community with numerous tiny coffee and banana plantations, may be reached after a brief drive from Moshi town. After completing the entrance procedures, we ascend through a lovely, untouched forest to reach the clearing where Mandara Hut is located (2,700 m.). Maundi Crater’s volcanic ruins are nearby and a fun afternoon excursion. Another option is to relax and take in the stunning woodland. The huts have a diverse bird population, and monkeys are frequently spotted there as well. (3-5 hours on foot to reach Mandara Hut)

Day 2: Climbing from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

The path starts off as a hard ascent through a forest, but it soon emerges into grassland moorland with good views of the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks in clear weather. To eventually reach Horombo Hut, we make a steady ascent across a region of moorland that contains enormous heather and sporadic stands of groundsel (3,720 m.). The position is near the glaciated dome of Kibo, and there is a true sense that you are above the clouds. Sunrises and sunsets here are frequently incredibly beautiful. [Walking from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut takes 4-6 hours]

Day 3: Climb from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

We ascend very gradually as we approach the Saddle, a lunar desert located between Mawenzi and Kibo. Screed replaces the landscape, and a sense of wilderness at a high elevation is apparent. By midday, we normally arrive at Kibo Hut (4,700 m), which lies at the base of the crater wall, and the afternoon is free (to plan the summit ascent!). Resting and eating are done for the rest of the day in order to be ready for the last ascent and an early night! [Walking from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut takes 4-5 hours]

Day 4: Summit Day then down to Horombo Hut

Around one in the morning, we will begin our trek by torchlight so that we can arrive at Gillman’s Point in time for daybreak. We will reach Gillman’s (5,685 m.) in around five or six hours if we keep up a conservative but steady pace after the initial steep ascent over a shaky volcanic screen. There, we’ll take a break and enjoy the sunrise for a while.

If you’re still in good shape, you can make the three-hour round trip from here to Uhuru Peak (5,896 m), passing quite near the breathtaking glaciers that still cover the majority of the summit area. We unexpectedly make a quick descent and get back to Horombo Hut for the evening. [11–15 walking hours from Kibo Hut to Gillman’s Point]

Day 5: Descend from Horombo Hut to Moshi

After breakfast, we will start with a pleasant moorland walk to Mandara and then a lovely forest walks to the National Park gates to Moshi town at the hotel where you will overnight (BB). The greenness and lushness of the forest are quite a stunning contrast to the summit day, and it really makes you realize how varied the scenery on Kilimanjaro really is. [5-6 hours walking. Day of departure: Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport.
