Itinerary for 1-day Ziwa Rhino trekking, canoe ride to spot shoebill and Nature walk

On this day. We will leave Kampala at 7 : 00 am. After an early breakfast, we will head north of Kampala on the Gulu highway towards Murchison Falls National Park. For three hours drive, the plan is to get to Ziwa to find the rhinos still active in the search for feeds compared to when it’s already hot and they decide to hide and rest. This trip will give us chance to see homesteads along the journey, village lifestyles and various roadside vegetables and local markets.

On arrival, you will be given a briefing from your ranger guide about the sanctuary. Depending on the location of the Rhinos, we may drive closer before the trek commences to cut the distance. You will enjoy the trekking while your ranger will give you each and every detail about the Rhinos. Once you encounter them, you will stay in their presence for about an hour.

After trekking, you can go on a canoe ride to encounter the shoebill in the Swamp which is its natural habitat. The shoebill is greatly guaranteed to be viewed approximately totalling 8 birds on an average of one canoe ride. You will have lunch and then embark on a nature walk for another feel of nature.

Nature walk: this is another great activity to wind up your day at this sanctuary. You will be guided through the paths of the sights and sounds of nature at the sanctuary. There are high chances of spotting a number of birds that will intrigue your day which include; African Black Crake, Broad-billed Roller, African Black-headed Oriole, Bronze Mankini, and African Blue Flycatcher, Brown-backed Scrub-Robin, African Broadbill and many more.
